A high school athlete in Buena Vista has been killed in a car accident. The 18-year-old student was a star soccer player.
It collided in that lane with the box truck, driven by 66-year-old James D. WIlliams, of Hammonton. Gazzara’s vehicle then continued to spin, state police said, before coming to rest on the right shoulder of the southbound lane.
Gazzara was pronounced dead at the scene. State police said he had not been wearing a seatbelt. The accident occurred during Thursday’s rush-hour dusting of snow.
Williams was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. The News was unable to contact a hospital spokesperson Friday afternoon for an update on his condition.
The crash remains under investigation.
At Sacred Heart, students and staff shared their grief over Gazzara’s death. School officials decided to make Friday a half day because of the tragedy.
